Bharuch is believed to one of the most ancient cities of India that finds its name in several Hindu mythological volumes such as ‘Brahmand Purana’, ‘Matsya Purana’ and ‘Markandey Purana’. It is beautifully placed at the junction where Narmada River falls into Arabian Sea in the state of Gujarat. The city was given several names including ‘Bhrugukutch’, ‘Shree Nagar’, ‘Bharukutch’, ‘Bharuattch’, ‘Barugaza’, before eventually settling as “Bharuch”. It is also mentioned in ‘Mahabharat’ by the name ‘Bharukutch’ .
